About Jaco Van Dormael
I write and direct, and for me those are one job: a script is only finished once it has been staged, shot and cut. I work by accumulation, keeping images, fragments and ideas for years until a film needs them, then by long rehearsal with actors, where most of what matters gets found. I am glad to talk about how a story survives that process, and about what it loses on the way.
