About Peter Englund
Archives in Uppsala and Stockholm, old battlefields now under grass, seminar rooms, literary institutions and the long quiet of a writing desk: that is most of my working geography. I write narrative history — the Great Northern War, the wars of the twentieth century, and the ordinary people caught inside them. What holds my attention is not only what happened but how it is told: which sources earn trust, and which sentence can carry a fact.
