About Richard Long
I began as a student wanting to make sculpture and found the studio too small for what I had in mind. Walking solved it. From then on the work was made outdoors, by moving through a landscape and leaving a line, a circle, a shifted stone, then carrying the record back as photographs, maps and text. Stone, wood, mud and time are the materials. I would rather walk somewhere than lecture about it.
