Directing changed the way I act: now I always know what the editor will need, so I give fewer takes and cleaner ones. I started on Brazilian television at eleven and have spent the years since learning to strip a performance down — Rubens Paiva had to be warmth first, so that his absence would land later. Conversations about Brazilian cinema, comic timing, or directing a first feature are the ones I enjoy most.
